The 17-year old Martin Danoff is the Golf Champion of Bulgaria
The Golf champions of Bulgaria are the 17-year old Martin Danoff in the men division and Iliana Dimitrova in the ladies division. First in the junior girls division ranked Bojana Dimitrova and Liubomir Kostov won among the junior boys. The prizes in the men division were for the best gross result (Martin Danoff) and net result (Stefan Kralchev) and in the other three divisions only for best gross result. Reni Damyanova from the Bulgarian Golf Association, Alexander Gagov (Direktor Marketing and Communications in M-Te) and Nikolay Kaloyanov (President of Pirin Golf & Country Club) bestowed the awards to the winners.
The 4-th State National Golf Championship for Amateurs 2009 took place this weekend at Pirin Golf & Country Club, Razlog. It was organized by the Bulgarian Golf Association and the official sponsor – the telecommunications company M-Tel. 64 Bulgarian golfers with official handicaps from the European Golf Association took part in the championship. They competed in four divisions (men, ladies, junior girls, and junior boys) on 36 holes on Ian Woosnam golf course, format Singles Medal.
Most of the players came on Friday and started with practicing rounds of golf on the courses. The training day continued with a welcome cocktail. Alan Rogut (Manager Golf Development in the Bulgarian Golf Association), Nikolay Stanew (Golf Director of Pirin Golf) and Nikolay Kaloyanov (President of Pirin Golf Club) welcomed the guests and wished them success for the forthcoming tournament. On Saturday the weather surprised the golfers with heavy rain throughout the whole day. Nevertheless, the participants showed enthusiasm and played until the end. On Sunday the weather turned out to be better and the amateurs enjoyed the golf play.
“We support golf, because this is а new and perspective sport for Bulgaria. We already have excellent golf resorts and we are sure that this sport will become more affordable and popular in Bulgaria. Through it Bulgaria will become more popular touristic destination.”, said Alexander Gagov
The State National Championship takes place on the Pirin Golf Club golf courses (Ian Woosnam and Pirin Pine golf courses) for a second consecutive year.
“We are glad to be hosting the State National Golf Championship for a second consecutive year. Every year the number of Bulgarian golfers increases. The fact that Bulgarian golfers living in Canada came especially for the championship is indicative. The tournament was well organized and we showed that Bulgaria is appropriate for the development of golf. This sport is an excellent example of the harmonic co-existence of men and nature.”, said the Pirin Golf & Country Club President Nikolay Kaloyanov at the awarding ceremony.
